Invoking

In the Manage projects dialog, or on the Dashboard, click Restore from backup below the list of projects.

Use

In the Restore projects from backup wizard, you can control how the local projects and their resources are restored from the backup files.

Important: You cannot restore backup files that were created in another (earlier or later) version of memoQ. If you want to restore a package that was made in a different version, install that version first, then restore the backup package.

Important: The backup/restore mechanism of memoQ copies the internal (binary) form of the project and resource files in the backup package. When you restore a backup package, all affected project files and resource files are overwritten. memoQ does not look at the contents of the files when restoring the files.

Occasionally, you can lose recent work by restoring a backup file. Do not restore projects from a backup file unless

· the project was damaged on your computer, and you cannot access its contents, or
· you are absolutely certain that the copy you are restoring is newer from the version on your computer (this is possible if the backup file was created on another computer).

Step 1: Select the backup package to restore

In the Package to restore text box, type the path and the name of the backup package you want to restore. Alternatively, you can click the MemoQ ellipsis button Restore projects from backup (wizard) button, and browse your computer for the backup package.

Note: memoQ backup package files have the .mqbkf extension.

After selecting the backup package, click Next. Click Cancel to leave the wizard without restoring data.

Step 2: From the backup package, choose individual projects to restore

As a second step, memoQ analyzes the backup file, and retrieves a list of projects inside the package. Then you can choose from the following actions:

· You can ignore – choose not to restore – a project.
· You can choose to add a project as a new one to your existing projects.
· You can choose to update an existing project from a project in the backup file.

In the upper half of the wizard page, you can choose where to create any new projects during the restore.

· Click the Create new projects in the default location radio button to create all new projects in the location specified in the Locations pane of the Options dialog.
· Click the Create new projects here radio button to specify a folder where memoQ should create all new projects from this backup. Type the path to the folder in the text box below the radio button, or click the MemoQ Restore projects from backup (wizard) ntent/uploads/sub/memoq/en/source/ellipsis_button.png" width="30" height="18" border="0" alt=""> button to browse for a folder.

Note: If you do not choose to add any new projects, memoQ will not use the radio button settings in the upper half of this wizard page.

In the lower half of the wizard page, memoQ lists the projects it found in the backup file. Each project has a check box and an action indicator.

· By default, all check boxes are turned on, which means that all those projects will be restored. If you do not want to restore a project, clear the check mark in its row.
· By default, memoQ will attempt to update an existing project with a project in the backup file. To change this, click the Update action indicator next to the name of a project. The indicator will change into ‘Add‘, which means that the project will be added to the set of projects.

To proceed with the restore, click Next. Click Back to specify another backup file. Click Cancel to leave the wizard without restoring data.

Step 3: Ready to restore

In the last wizard page, memoQ asks you to confirm the restore operation. Note that all project and resource files will be overwritten. Occasionally, you can lose recent work with this. Do not restore projects from a backup file unless

· the project was damaged on your computer, and you cannot access its contents,
· you are absolutely certain that the copy you are restoring is newer from the version on your computer (this is possible if the backup file was created on another computer).
