In the Edit TM settings dialog, you can specify a set of translation memory parameters, such as match thresholds and penalties, for your currently opened project. You can also use this dialog to set up filters that restrict or penalize the matches that are coming from the translation memories in your project.
Invoking You can invoke the Edit TM settings dialog from the TM Settings category of the Settings pane in Project home, or the TM settings pane of the Resource console. Select the TM settings you wish to edit, and click the Edit link below the list. You can also edit the default TM settings in the Default resources pane of the Options dialog.
Use General tab

Match thresholds area:
| · | Minimum match threshold: Use this spin box to enter the minimum percentage needed for a translation memory hit to be qualified as a match. No matches below this percentage will be indicated to the user.

| · | Good match threshold: Use this spin box to enter the percentage needed for a translation memory hit to be qualified as a good match.
|
Penalties area: When you receive a suggestion from the translation memories, memoQ will deduct the penalty values from the match rate of the suggestion. All values are in percents: when you get a suggestion that originally has a match rate of 100%, and the penalty is 3%, memoQ will report this as a 97% match.
| · | Alignment penalty: Use this spin box to enter the penalty used for segment pairs obtained through alignment.

Note: Because misalignment can remain in translation memories created using the automatic alignment, memoQ assumes that an automatically aligned segment pair is always a worse match than a proper hand-crafted one. memoQ automatically subtracts this percentage from the actual match percentage returned by the translation memory lookup engine.
Use the User penalties and TM penalties lists to define penalties for individual memoQ users or individual translation memories. Penalties are assigned to specific user names.
| · | Delete: Click this button to delete a selected penalty.

Adjustments area:
| · | Adjust fuzzy hits and inline tags: Check this check box to enable on-the-fly adjustment of numbers, ending punctuation marks, cases and inline tags within translation memory hits with less than 100% match rate.
|
| · | Inline tag strictness for exact matches: Use this drop-down list to specify the characteristics of a 100% match. You can choose between Strict, Medium and Permissive.

Filters tab

You can use the TM settings to filter the matches coming from the translation memories in your project. There are two types of filters:
| · | Strict filters: If a match (that is, a translation unit from a translation memory
) meets the conditions of a strict filter, it is discarded. This translation unit will not appear on the list of suggestions in the Translation results pane of the translation grid.
|
| · | Soft filters: If a match meets the conditions of a soft filter, memoQ applies a penalty for it. For example, if there is a 100% match that meets the conditions of a soft filter that specifies a 4% penalty, memoQ will show it as a 96% match.
|
You can use the Filters tab of the Edit TM Settings dialog to set up filters:
Use the Strict filters area to set up strict filters. If the custom fields of a translation unit meet the conditions of the strict filters, it is omitted from the list of suggestions in the Translation results pane of the translation grid. You can specify multiple strict filters. If a translation unit matches any of the strict filters, it is discarded.
| · | To add a strict filter, click Add in the Strict filters area. The Filter properties dialog appears, where you can edit the filter conditions.

| · | To modify a strict filter, select it in the list, and click Edit. The Filter properties dialog appears with the existing filter conditions.
|
| · | To remove a filter, select it in the list, and click Remove.
|
Use the Soft filters area to set up soft filters. If the custom fields of a translation unit meet the conditions of a soft filter, memoQ deducts a penalty value from the original match rate. If the translation unit matches more than one soft filters, memoQ can either add up the penalties, or apply the penalty for the first matching soft filter – this is your choice.
| · | To add a soft filter, click Add in the Soft filters area. The Filter properties dialog appears, where you can edit the filter conditions. You can also specify the penalty in the Filter properties dialog.

| · | To modify a soft filter, select it in the list, and click Edit. The Filter properties dialog appears with the existing filter conditions.
|
| · | To remove a soft filter, select it in the list, and click Remove.
|
| · | Click the Use first applicable penalty radio button if you do not want memoQ to add up the penalties of all matching soft filters. In this case, the (priority) order of soft filters is important. memoQ processes the soft filter from top to bottom. You can reorder the soft filters by moving each of them up and down in the list. Select a soft filter to move. Then click Move up to move it towards the top, or click Move down to move it towards the bottom.

| · | Click the Add up penalties radio button if you want memoQ to use the sum of penalties from all matching soft filters. In this case, the order of soft filters is not important.

Navigation Click OK to close the Edit TM settings dialog, saving all changes. Clicking Cancel will close the dialog without saving changes.
